The chubby guy at the front everyone complains about has always been friendly to me, and seats my party quickly. The food is tasty and a bargain- i've never left without leftovers. Great place to go for lunch, dinner or after a late night.

I wonder how much she has stolen over the years. It will be the last time I ever set foot in that Swiss Chalet. Head office has be notified. The manager only credited me for the $10.00. It sure was the wrong thing to do. The whole world now knows not to go there.

New review added to Koutouki Restaurant

A review from a real Greek
For starters, I am a second generaton Hellene, lived in Toronto, and new to Edmonton. I have dined in Greece, and Toronto - Danforth. I know my food, by the way, my relatives have tavernas in Paros. This place is truly not up to Toronto's Greek resturants, the menu is pedestrian - missing a many key dishes, and bread IS NOT included, unheard of in a Greek restaurant. The saganaki was pathetic, made from a mozzarella-ish cheese, no flavour. The cook came to apologize when I complained - and said "he would never cook this way at home." The tzatziki needed garlic, the meat overdone and dry, and price far exceeded what I would have expected, $9 dollars for a puny Greek salad? Koutouki is one step above Opa fast food, in fact, Opa does a few dishes better. Will never return, and heartily recommend any restaurant in Toronto over Koutouki. The plave needs a comlete update - both menu and decor before Greeks will come here.

New review added to Packrat Louie Kitchen & Bar

Very Hit and Miss
I ate here 8 or 9 times over a few month period (usually lunches) and found it very hit and miss. Sometimes the food would be fantastic other times it would be horrible. For example one time I ordered the burger and got a premade frozen patty that was disgusting. About one week later I went there with some work colleagues and one of them ordered the exact same burger. His burger looked fresh and homemade (definitely different than what I had) and even had 2 patties on it (mine had one). He said it was delicious.

Another time I tried the sticky toffee pudding and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. A few weeks later I got it again but this time it tasted like it was made a week before and reheated and wasn't served with ice cream like it was the first time.

The worst occasion was when I tried the steak sandwich which I think is the Friday special. It was the worst thing I've ever had in a restaurant (except maybe the steak I had at the Europa cafe in west ed). I ordered it medium rare and was served a tiny well done piece of mystery meat that was 95% gristle and fat. It was absolutely horrible and I haven't been back to the restaurant since then about 8 months ago. I really should have complained about it but I only had 45 min for lunch and wasn't in the mood.

Having said that the other half of the time the food was really good. The pizza's are always good. The salmon fish and chips was great. The apps were great. It's worth a try but unless they've improved their standards it's a gamble.

New review added to Sunshine Cafe & Catering

A great chance to broaden your culinary horizons
We decided to try the Sunshine Cafe after it popped up in a strip mall on 131 ave and 65 street a few months ago. It offers Eritrean and Western cuisine. Its one of those places that doesn't look like much on the outside but inside it is immaculately clean and cheerfully decorated.
We were in the mood for something new so we stuck to the African dishes. Our server who I think was also the owner was very helpful she made some very good suggestions and offered to cut back on the peppers for my wife who doesn't do spicy.
The food was all very good the appetizers were sambusos they were veggie stuffed pastries with a bit of a kick plus a dipping sauce with even more kick if you wanted it. We had a beet salad that was fantastic, and looked beautiful to boot.
The entrees came with African bread that was crepe like. The server explained African food is traditionally eaten with your hands. At our request she got a sample and showed how its done without making a mess of your hands. I had the combination plate and everything on it was very good. My wife had a chicken dish and it was simply to die for.
If your looking to try something new the sunshine cafe is a great place to start.

Gone many times and will keep going
An exceptional experience every time my wife and I go. We go often for wine & appetizers and the smoked salmon bruschetta is by far our favorite as we have it almost every time. The prices are on par for their relaxed-classy atmosphere. Entrees are a bit pricey for the portion size, but not for quality. An extensive wine list, with a large selection of by the glass wines. If they have it open, you can get a sample to see if you like it which has been very helpful and appreciated. Nice touches like their varying wine flights and movie nights are also a welcome variance. The service is always fantastic. We are always treated well with an attentive and knowledgeable server.

The decor is simple yet creative....who thought rubber duckies and silver bowls would make such great art! The service is quick and simple and the dress code seems to be a lip piercing, dark hair, and a cute quirky personality. Great place! I will be back!

New review added to Ric's Grill,

Worst Dining Experince at Ric's Grill - People Plz Don't Go
I used to go to Ric’s Grill at the Riverbend location every so often since I enjoyed the dining experience and the speed of the service, kindness, and respect that I got from the waiters and other staffs. However, during this experience, when I came back from Vancouver to Edmonton for a visit, this restaurant has not been able to live up to its previous glory.

On Thursday, June 12, 08, after my graduation, my parents and I are planning to have dinner at that restaurant. When we get there and ask for a seat, the receptionist tells us that there is a table for us, but she needs to take in some people who have already reserved their table and are standing behind us. I said, “That’s fine”. Interestingly, when the receptionist walks back out, she tells me that there is “there no table for us until 7:15 pm”. Well at that moment, I am disappointed by the contradictory statement that the receptionist has made, but I still aim to try this restaurant the next day.

By the next day, on Friday, June 13, 08, I book a reservation for 7:30 pm when it was only sometime around noon to ensure that I will have a seat at the same restaurant that I cannot get into before. When I arrive that night, it is already about 5 minutes late for the reservation. I quickly ask for my reserved table, the receptionist says she will go to check my table to see if it is ready, but then she stops to enter the dining area to check when she sees a mid-age Caucasian man standing next to me and asks him what he needs. When he says he wants to purchase a gift card, she completely turns around and processes the gift card immediately while neglecting to check my table as to if it is ready yet. When another staff pops by, she tells that staff to check my table for her. So rather than serving me first when I am the first to ask her, she is helping a Caucasian man rather than a Chinese Canadian female. After the other staff realizes that the table is not cleaned up, the receptionist then tells me that it is being cleaned now. As I have described before, I have already arrived 5 minutes late and so the table should be cleaned and ready to go for 7:30 pm. When finally, my parents and I get to our reserved table, we have only been given three menus to look at and not even a glass of water being offered or any staff dropping by to ask what we will like to drink even though I see a waiter walking by and seeing us there for 5 to 6 times for more than 30 minutes. When the waiter arrives, the first words he said, “I don’t know what’s with this table.” My first reaction is what does he meant by, he [doesn’t] know about this table? Don’t they have a brief meeting before the start of the evening for dining that night as to who is responsible for which tables? If so, should that waiter knows that either he is responsible or another staff is responsible for the service for those table itself? Even if that table is not his responsibility and he sees that nothing is being served and not even a glass of water, then he has the responsibility to work as a team and let his colleague knows that there are customers at that table waiting to be served. I am so frustrated that I need to ask for the manager since I have never entered a restaurant no matter how busy it is that not even a glass of water is being served for so long. When the manager walks to our table, she does not introduce herself as the manager until being asked, and when I complain to her about the issues that I am encountering, she only say, “sorry”, while supporting her staff members and neglect my comments about the waiter or whoever waiter did walked by numerous times, but still nothing has been served, not even a drink. Even as a manger, she is not stepping into her role as a manger of taking full responsibility and even showing to the customers that they have been heard when she continues to support and back up her co-workers that they have not walked by when in fact three pairs of eyes have seen them walking back and forth serving other customers.

I have not seen a restaurant this badly managed to the point that after the comment that I give to the manager, we decide to leave at 8:15 pm and go to the Keg. The Keg, on the other hand, demonstrates to have an outstanding service and great dining experience. As for the Ric’s Grill at the Riverbend location, I will never recommend anyone to go back there to visit ever again. Even for someone like me who used to enjoy the dining experiences there, I will never go back again.

Growing up all my public schools forced our class to visit there once a year. After my first visit I convinced myself that maybe I just wasn't into French food. This assumption was proved wrong after I had visited La Table de Renoir. Any who, the main course was bland but their pina colada's were fab as were they're deserts. The desert crepes however are much better at the Bistro Praha.

New review added to Tandoori Express

Affordable, tasty Indian food
I had to chime in, here, since the other reviews didn't have anything at all positive to say, but I do want to give an honest review....

I have gotten takeout from Tandoori Express numerous times, and have always found the staff to be more than friendly. They have even offered my partner and I free samples of dessert/or extra mango lahsse on a couple occasions!

While I don't think this food is quite of the same caliber as some of the higher-end Indian restaurants in the city, we have always found it to be delicious, and an EXCELLENT value for the money.
It's the only Indian food place I know of where two people can each get a meal combo, plus an appetizer (large enough to be a meal on its own), and a (large!) mango lahsse, for under $30.. enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

I think that the 'butter' sauce is absolutely fantastic, and does not taste even remotely like Campbell's soup, as another reviewer suggested.

Although I do have a fairly large warning for vegetarians, and hope that the restaurant will take note, if they happen to read this.
I have ordered the 'vegetarian' paneer combo, and on a couple of occasions, found small bits of chicken in the sauce. It seems quite obvious that they just put the same sauce that the butter chicken is cooked in on top of the paneer, rather than making a separate sauce for vegetarians.
For most people who choose a vegetarian lifestyle, this would be ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. If meat is cooked in a sauce, that sauce isn't vegetarian. Period.
Veggies may wish to clarify their needs if they visit.

The samosas are huge, and quite flavorful, and the channa masala is also good. The snack box combo is a great value.
They used to inclue chutney, but the last couple times I didn't receive any.. I hope they still have it.

This place is worth trying.

New review added to Don Antonios Mexican Food Ltd

awesome Mexican food for a good value!
I work just down the street from Don Antonio's, so I have eaten here (and gotten takeout) on a few occasions.

There is a good selection for vegetarians, and everything is flavorful. Portions are generous, and affordable, and service is friendly.

I like the chiles rellenos... the sauce on it is amazing! Tostadas are also quite good.

The food is not really spicy, but if you ask for hot sauce, you get some FANTASTIC stuff which is very hot, and tastes fresh and homemade.
I love that everything comes with a heap of tasty refried beans, and rice.

My only complaint is that a couple of occasions when I have ordered something that the menu claimed comes with guacamole, and I didn't get any, and had to ask for it. (guacamole is one of my favorite things! please don't be stingy with it!)

I will certainly be back again :)
