Authentic Mexican Fare
The Blue Iguana, located on Sylvan Lake's main drag, is a welcome addition to the pubs, bars and fast food joints associated with this tourist town. The food is authentic Mexican, including more salsas to choose from than you never know existed. The 'platters' are generous, and the owner (a hip young dude in his 20's) is enthusiastic and cheery. The atmosphere is homey and clean. As the Blue Iguana opened in the summer (late) of 2008, there are still a few kinks to work out. There are no highchairs or booster seats, do don't go there with a child that needs one unless you are getting take out. The beverages are entirely non-alcoholic (they didn't have a liquor license whe we were there) so don't count on a great margarita to go with your enchiladas. The service was slow and the tables were very small (difficult to maneuver if your party is ordering platters) and the restrooms are basically IN the eating area.... which is a little disconcerting. Really don't want to be looking at a toilet if I'm eating a bean burrito, ya know? With time and refinement, this place could be pretty good... nice patio looking over the lake and authentic Mexican. New decor, but they really, REALLY need to work out the seating issues and make it more family friendly. All in all, a fresh, nice alternative to the non family friendly bars and pubs on the main drags. Sylvan could use a couple more places like this.

The Hamburgers Suck
Willy's Hamburgers taste like crap. The chicken was okay, though. It's no wonder they closed down and have been replaced by Burger Boy.

North and South
We eat here often. Service is great, both locations. Food is always good and flavourful. Highly recommended.

Poor Food
I quickly learned to avoid the in-house restaurant during my 3 week stay here in Nov 2003. Pasta sauces that were bland and floury, overdone meat, stale burger buns. The only thing I liked were the milkshakes.

Overall, not bad
Buffet has plenty of choice for food - I'm not a fan of Alberta chinese food (MUCH different than BC chinese food, at least where I'm from) - but lots of other choices as well, and a very good price. Wait times are a bit long for service but the staff are polite and pleasant and the atmosphere, if uninspired, is always clean. Only complaint is that a few of the dishes are quite obviously 'fake' (like how you can tell powdered mashed potatoes from real). I'd be willing to pay a couple bucks extra for an improvement in quality in that area.

Please leave if you are a single patron!
I used to eat here all the time and lately have been asked to leave at ll:50 because I am the only one at a table. I come in at ll:15 to have lunch and within 1/2 hour I am asked to leave because they need my table. The last time I was still drinking my tea. Too bad as I always left a good tip.
