Cheap Eats Fresh Baked
Was on Carling at lunch so we stopped for our favorite pies. Meat and cheese with spice for my wife. Zatar with veggies and a cheese for me. With a water it came to eight bucks and I was full. Fresh baked pies with no line today at noon sweet!

Cheap, quick and yummy!
I wouldn't consider this place a restaurant, since half of it is a convenience store. But if you're hungry and on the go, this place is great!
The meat pies are excellent! I always have the meat and cheese ones but they have several options.
It's close to a school so avoid going during lunch time, because it gets crowded.
Prices are very reasonable and the service is efficient. The parking lot is pretty small though, so it can get hard to get out of there when it's busy.
If you're looking to grab a quick and delicious bite, this is the place to go!

Well woth your money!
As a former Notre Dame student, I pretty much grew up on these...

Where else can you get full off of $2.50? I find one meat and cheese pie with spice and lemon the perfect amount of food for lunch and it hits the spot oh so well! I especially enjoy it with some Mango Nectar =)

Prices have doubled since I was in HS but whatever, it's called inflation!! hahah u can't even get a pop for $1 now so what do u expect?? $2.50 is still a steal!!

Great (190.97)

Quality meat and cheese pies
If you are a former student of Broadview, Nepean or Notre Dame you are probably well aware of Alladin Bakery, or what we called it, "Alladin's". For those who don't know, half of Alladin's is a convenience store on Carling avenue that also sells some very basic middle eastern groceries. The other half of Alladin's is dedicated to baking a wide variety of superb Lebanese pies.

There are crispy and flat meat, cheese, vegetable and zatar pies. They also make "pockets", like a calzone, that come filled with cheese and olives. The meat with cheese is my obvious favourite, the cheese is mild but nice and salty. The cheese pocket is also divine, but I recommend you ask them to leave it in the large oven for a little extra time. To properly enjoy one, you need to let the cheese get totally melted.

Prices are reasonable, remarkably the "Eat for 1 Dollar" sign is as true today as it was over a decade ago when they put it up. The decor inside is little more than a couple of stools and a rickety table. Go for some pies, ask for spice and lemon and you'll have a very cheap and delicious lunch.

WOWZAHS
I used to deliver milk to Aladdin and was always curious about the massive oven and intoxicating smell, but I was on a tight schedule and kept on my route. It wasn't until a co-worker suggested i grab a pie. When I first tried it i was blown away and never left empty handed again. Goes best with cold chocolate milk! Avoid noon hour and 2:30-3pm because there are plenty of schools around, and very popular with the tweens. Finest in Ottawa!

quick lunch, so good
This place has been open for about 12 years, and they're known for their "Eat for $1" slogan. The thing is, you can't really eat for a dollar anymore, unless you're ordering a pack of gum (and even then...?). The prices were amazing back in the day, and it seemed more fair - $1 for a cheese pie, $1.25 for meat, etc. In the past couple of years, the prices have gotten higher and higher, and now they're over $2 for a pie. Don't get me wrong, they are still amazing, and I HIGHLY recommend it (I eat em at least once every two weeks). Especially recommend the meat with cheese pie, or the cheese pocket (a million times better than the cheese pie.. the pocket seals in the great taste, which is probably grease, but I don't worry about it. heh)

The prices are annoying, and sometimes the service can be poor. Its tougher to get the spice and lemon on the pies now too, it used to be a standard question, and they'd happily cover your pie with spice and lemon. Now you have to ask specifically for it, and keep an eye on them to make sure they actually put it on! It make a big difference, the spice and lemon are awesome. Also, sometimes they use different (i.e. lesser) tomatoes in the meat pies, one staff guy confessed to me when I complained they had been tasting different. He said the prices on the usual tomatoes were too high, so they bought different ones. Definitely was not as good.

Anyways, all that aside, these are still amazing pies, and I'll still pay $2.25 or $2.50 each, though I'd much rather still be "eating for one dollar". I just hope they don't price themselves out of business, is really my concern.

I've been to this place twice to pick up some desserts.

The good: An amazing array of different desserts. All looked delicious, didn't even know what some of them were! Prices were great.

The bad: After being in for a few minutes, looking at the desserts and asking some questions, I became very uncomfortable. The person behind the counter seemed very bored with me, and very reluctant to answer my queries. I wanted to just leave, but I'll be honest - I didn't have the guts!

The Ugly: This happened twice. Both times I exclaimed over the fabulous spread, and then told the server what I was looking for (Sunday dinner, x number of people, etc). Both times they were sort of..."oh really? That's nice." With no offers of what might be good. Even when I asked what things were, they were less than forthcoming.

The desserts I ended up with both times were very good indeed, but I won't be back because the service I recieved was a put-off.

You get what you pay for, and more!

Aladdin's is an excellent place if you like pita's or meat pies. I just love their potato and meat. It only costs $1.75, how much better can you get?

The only thing you can complain about is the line, which is not their fault. The line is long sometimes because the food is so good, and the price is right.

I recommend if you have not tried it yet, to try it next time you are on Carling!

Good (50.30)

Super fresh meat pies. Always a busy place. Several options like meat & cheese, spinach, potato, cream cheese with olives, etc. The pies are cooked in an open flame oven right there. Since its also a convenience store, the atmosphere isn't the best, but it smells good in there. There are a few tables to sit, but they mostly do take-out. Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and efficient. The parking lot can become a crowded nightmare.
