ORDER THE RIBS!!
Partner and I went there last night. Just back in town and needing dinner. Decided to stay in the neighborhood. Third time there - never disappointed. This time was the best yet.
Word: Order the Ribs!! A great dish that came with potato salad to cool things down and a jalapeno-studded cornbread muffin. The wine was ridiculous: $5.50 for a house pour. A great deal.

Waitress was quick, friendly and efficient.

As Ahnold says: I vill be back.

oh so good for any meal of the day
both brunch menu and dinner menu is tasty tasty tasty. I've had brunch there several times from the traditional two eggs any style to their eggs benny, all are fantastic. I've also had dinner there a few times, not only are the items on the menu tasty but they offer several different specials very night. Atmosphere is great the food is great, only one thing negative to say is that the service is not fantastic.

Fish and Chips better than in Dublin
Hard to believe you can beat the Irish at their own game, but SHLG does it in spades. Crisp, tasty and perfect portion.
Gotta love it.

comfortable and tasty
I like this place. I usually have a salad or wings with a few pints of lager when I go with friends. Always tasty. A very comfortable relaxing environment for some good conversation. Sometimes, occasionally, the service can be a bit slow, but personally I don't like waiting staff who hover over me, so I don't mind. I say excuse me, and they come over. So there. The beer is cold, the chef knows what he's doing and is very accommodating, the place is spotless, the people are friendly. What more can you ask for in a pub?

Great brunch!
Went with a few friends and we all were impressed with the tasty brunch and decent value (and no lineup). Brunch was about $8 for eggs benny with yummy spiced southern greens or french toast waffles or omelettes. Be sure to check out the old sandy hill photos on the wall too! (I had no idea there were canals at strathcona park back in the day) My only complaint was that the server never brought us the bill or told us to pay at the cash, since we didn't want to linger we just went up to the cash in the end.

Warming up to it
The first time I went to this place for dinner, I think I was a bit biased because I was mad that Drumlin's had closed and this place took its spot and did not have TVs for hockey or chicken wing deals. I had their chicken wings anyway, which were $ and not nearly as good as Drumlin's, so I won't order them again. The second time I went, I brought my family because it's close to where I live and seemed to have something that would please everyone. Overall, it was a big success. My dad loved the chili (though he was still a bit hungry after so he ordered some onion rings which were good). My mom and aunt had the salmon special which they really liked. I tried the steak sandwhich which came with very tasty fries and homemmade ketchup. Good club sandwhich too. Prices were reasonable. Service was ok, sometimes a bit slow, and when I told the guy I couldn't find a phone # online to make reservations, he was just like "oh". And didn't provide me with a # for next time. The restaurant/bar have been renovated since Drumlin's and it's fancier now but still casual. I miss the carpeted floor (the wood floors make it seem empty and echo-y) but otehrwise it's nice. I'll go back. Oh and they have Strongbow on tap!

I'll be going back!
This is my neighbourhood pub, but it's under new management. Decided to give it a try, and I was not dissapointed! The Chili is hearty, meaty. Could use more beans, but I am a bean person and my table mate liked it as is. He had the burger and I managed to snag a bite... more like steak than ground beef. Excellent flavour!

The Onion rings were much better than average, but not fantastic... but the dipping sauce made up for that!

And then there was the Gumbo. Oh the gumbo! Chicken and sausage.. and a generous serving. But it is a stick to your ribs comfort food kind of gumbo with a bit of spice to it. But the flavours in it are complex. It was so good I had to go thank the chef... I actually said "wow" out loud when I tasted it. My only complaint is the size of it... it's more than an appetizer, so if you have it before your main course, come hungry! I can't wait to go back and have it again!

A neighbourhood treat
Wow, I had a completely different experience from the first reviewer.
Between myself and my dining companion we've been to this place 5 times, had their fish and chips twice, the tortellini with steak twice, and the roast pork dinner.
There are two main wonderful things about this place:
1) The kitchen stays open late (by Ottawa standards)

2) While there is a regular menu, there is almost an equal number of "specials" everyday, because the Chef cooks according to what is available and what he feels like making. This means you get fresh ingredients and a dish that someone really cared about while making.

For a first experience, I heavily recommend the fish and chips. The batter is interesting and inventive, and the fries are great. It comes with homemade ketchup and, what seems to be an ever changing "tartar" sauce (one day it was more tartar sauce, another day it was curry-flavoured. Both delicious!).

The service is lovely, engaging, and accommodating. When we asked if we could share a meal one visit, it came out, not just with an extra plate - but perfectly split and plated on two separate plates. No extra charge.
Another visit, when I wasn't there, my friend asked about the desserts (also ever changing). When he didn't look excited about any of them, the waitress offered to have the chef whip up a special, simple dessert that was just what he wanted.
Not every dish in this place is mind-blowingly inventive, but the ones I've ordered have all been delicious.
The decor is engaging, homey but elegant in some ways with special touches.
Bottom line: this is a neighborhood bar/resto that will keep locals coming back often, and is good enough to draw people in from farther away.

Good Luck
Noted Drumlin's had been opened under a new name.

Stopped in for an app and a drink. The nacho's were so so. They had jarred hot peppers on them but other than that they were ok. The wine was horrible according to my wife, but the beer was ok with me.

Again, another place that does not take debit cards. Nothing I hate more than being sent to an ATM when I try to pay.

I won't return unless they improve big time unless I want a drink and the wine gets better.
