now called "Dolsot Cafe"
Stopped in here recently for a bite – had the same thing as “Halfie” (#36 bibimbap) except I really like it. It also comes with a small miso soup and all for $8.95, it left me pretty full.

Seldom seen set-up
Arum is quite possibly the only restaurant I have ever visited that set up my table with metal chopsticks (or was it the bowl ... or both?)

The food and pricing met what you'd expect from a homely diner. The service is personable, the prices are fair given what else is in the area, though I will withhold saying much on the food until I have at gone at least once more. I ordered the bibimbap and wasn't terribly fond of it, but I've had very good experiences with Korean food in the past, so it's possible that I just didn't like that particular dish.

Cozy, nice and fun
ok .. so.. I just love going here. It is not fancy, the atmosphere is fairly non existent but... The food is good and the staff are great. I usually go grab some bi bim bop or naengmyon then go shopping in their grocery store. In the grocery store try the cold drinks - grape juice for a fun surprise! Awesome juice with grapes in the bottom - just don’t choke.

Fast easy and Korean all the way

Excellent Qulaity, friendly, prompt service
Visited this place to have their brunch special: the Korean omelette.

$5.95 for an omelette, miso soup, rice, potatoes, tea, kimchi and coffee after the meal.

Having never heard of a Korean omelette, the internet told me it was basically a thin omelette over fried rice. This however was a steamed egg mixture with lots of chopped veggies served in a ceramc bowl (like a small stone bowl it kept it very hot). There was a fair bit of water at the bottom which made it difficult to eat with just chopsticks, but whatever, I used a spoon. Very tasty.

Very tasty, great value though they only had coffee whitener, no milk or cream.

Looking at their menu I saw many items that were a couple dollars cheaper than other Korean restaurants in centretown.

I will definitely return to try them.

Lotus in Korean
Have visited this restaurant probably more than a dozen times over the past few years. May have been sold recently (2008).

Authentic Korean restaurant. Co-located next to the Korean market. Convenient in case you need to stock up on Korean supplies (noodles, sauces, kimchi...) Parking can be tricky around the area. Good value for the weekday lunch specials.

Good kimchi and no problem asking for more. Food comes quickly and always hot. Menu choice is a bit limited but we never seem to get tired of it. Service is friendly and attentive. Treats families with kids well.

Authentic Korean Cuisine
If you are looking for authentic Korean food in Ottawa this seems to be the place to go. Good value for your buck. I was personally quite surprised since a lot of other ethnic restaurants in Ottawa bows to the pressure of 'westernizing' their food. But everything here seems to stay true to tradition. (i.e. it doesn't try to be something its not).

The interior could use a little work (it's a bit sparse), but the food more than makes up for it.

Changed owner (& chief)
There was a change of ownership for the restaurant and Market last year. The old owner now owns the Bulgogi.

This place is getting better and better
I've been going to Arum for a couple of years now and it seems like the place is better every time I go. The decor, the service and the food keeps improving. Seoul House might still be my favorite Korean restaurant in Ottawa (and I've tried them all) but Arum now a serious challenger. The chewy potato noodles and the dolsot bibimbap are great, and I've been told that the kalby ribs and the beef bulgogi are really good too.

Food does not taste as good as others have rated. I'm not going back considering the price, food, atmosphere.

Little, unpretentious restaurant
This is a very interesting little restaurant attached to a Korean grocery store. The decor is very spartan (almost all the decorative items are from Ikea!) but it has a very intimate atmosphere. The food is very good and inexpensive. The interesting thing is whatever you eat, you can always find the ingredients in the grocery store right next to it!

I've had a lot of different dishes there and my favorite is the pork bulgogi. The food is pretty good and a typical korean restuarnt that you can find in korea. the service is slow so don't go if you need to be somewhere.

The food was quite good, family style, but I always worry if the food was clean (emotionally influenced by the interior decor).

Would recommend to go there for casual meals.

I went to this restaurant without knowing it's name untill it showed up on my credit card bill. I liked what I had, the price was right and the pictures on the menu esured I at least had some idea of what I was ordering. I'm going to go back.

Having been to Korea - the food here is authentic and good. Bee bim bop just like I ate it in Korea! Sure the atmosphere is not great … but like people said, its like a mom and pop shop typical of Korea. So if you want the real thing. Here it is! Yum.

Shopping is also a great fun there! Anyong Haso! Kam samnida.

Just went there today for lunch. Portion is pretty generous, and they are price reasonable. Also, seems to be very authentic. I will definitely go back there again.

We had kim chee soups and dolsat bibimbop - all very, very good. We loved chatting with the people there and shopping in the store. Korean food is such a great change from the bad North Americanized versions of other cuisines in Ottawa. The kim chee they serve in the restaurant is also available in the store - it's awesome.

I wasn't at all interested in atmosphere but WAS hoping that, given it's point blank proximity to a Korean Market at least some of the dishes would be freshly prepared. Ordered the fish cakes in broth, the squid, the Bibimbap and short ribs. I'm quite sure that 95% of it was pre-made and frozen.

Kind of a let down as the fresh versionss of these dishes are great.

Arum is a typical drop in Korean style restaurant. There is one on every corner in South Korea, and this isn't much different. The menu is complete with all the Korean standards . I lived in Korea for a spell and it feels just like the real thing. But, if you are looking for fine-dining atmosphere, this isn't is. You go here to have a nice meal with well-priced authentic food. I'm going back.

I enjoyed this place a lot. It almost felt like I was eating in a store which was unusual, but it was comfortable, like a diner. My mom didn't cook Korean food, so can't make that comparison, but if this is like home cook food in Korea... YUMM! I liked going to an Asian restaurant where I felt like i could hang out there.

The food here is really yummy and tasty - just like stuff moms in korea make for their families. Maybe that's why the place feels less like a restaurant and more like a place you just drop by when you're craving some quick, delicious, inexpensive Korean food. The fact that it's located within a Korean market might take away from a quiet and secluded atmosphere that you associate with the average restaurants too. It's a family run business so the service is genuine, and you get more than you anticipated in both the food and the service. If you've tasted Korean food before, you'll be delighted to find many dishes not available at most other Korean restaurants along with those loved by all, and if you have yet to discover the hidden treasures Arum has to offer, be sure to drop by during the week and try one of their lunch specials which gives you a chance to sample a whole bunch of different Korean cuisine.

The place needs a fix...it's pretty run-down. The glass at the door was broken and seems like the owner doesn't plan to fix it. The food here is ok...then again I don't know if it's authentic or not. The price is cheap though. The menu is very nice with lots of photographs so you know what is what. However, a lot of the items weren't available..and I'm not sure if they ever will be.
