BEST INDIAN FOOD!!
Recently went to aahar for a night out, and i was truly amazed by the choice offered in menu , service and ambience prevailed by the staff. Very authentic indian dining experience matched with some great food suggestions, finally search ends here.

Worst Indian Restaurant in Ottawa
I want to inform all Indians to avoid visiting Aahar Restaurant. Food is undercooked and very bad. The worst indian restaurant in Ottawa. Bad food and poor service..staff just wants to sell food which is below expectations. Dont ruin your day by visiting this restaurant.

Different onion bhaji
Stopped in here recently for some takeout, went with the onion bhaji to start and a half chicken tandoori. The onion bhaji were not what I’m used to, these looked like onion rings and came with a dark sauce.

I googled for some onion bhaji pictures to illustrate

Here’s the type of onion bhaji I am used to:

Here’s what I got:

http://doesnttaztelikechicken.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/img_1186.jpg

I didn’t really like them, nor the sauce.

As for the tandoori chicken, I ordered a half chicken but got two legs (no breast portion, like you get when you order a half chicken at St. Huberts or Swiss chalet), but the chicken tasted fine (a case of a bit of false advertising)

Another night another restaurant.
We were three for dinner. It was our second visit here. We ordered (1)chicken samosa,and(1) paneer pakoras as appetizers. Butter chicken, palak lamb, vegetable dilruba, (1)rice, (1)garlic naan and (1)onion paratha. All were quite good, the butter chicken, palak lamb and samosa were very good. The Paneer Pakoras sort of a battered bland cheese was just OK. The samosa and pakoras come with a spicy dipping sauce that was very good. Garlic naan was good, but thought the onion paratha just OK... the next time I would just order the naan. Service was fairly attentive and the owner very helpful in picking dishes. As previously mentioned tables are close together so impossible to converse without being overheard. Total price came to around $60.00 before tax and tip, as we only had water to drink.
I have not eaten at very many Indian places but I thoroughly enjoyed the food here and the owner/ manager was quite friendly.

Pleasantly suprised
I've been to this restaurant for lunch before, but was disappointed with the selection, also, we arrived at the tail end so there wasn't much food left anyway (which is understandable). However, upon my most recent visit, things were much better. The buffet featured really tasty potato fingers, really good butter chicken, beef, and close to the best tandoori chicken I've ever had, if not the best. Also, the naan bread was really fresh and hot. Everything was awesome. I also love the fresh oranges, and the rice pudding, which tasted really delicate and not laden with sweetened condensed milk like some others I've had, not that that's bad, it was just nice to have it prepared in a more refreshing way for a change.

Overall, good experience, good service. Will definitely be going back.

Best Indian Food in Ottawa
We first tried Aahar in September when we moved into the neighborhood. For years, since we moved to Ottawa, we have been looking for an Indian restaurant that beats our favourites from Edmonton, and this is it.

The service is friendly and welcoming, the decor relaxing and traditional, but most importantly; the food is spectacular.

I would have to recommend their samosa's, chicken dilruba, daal makhni, chicken tikka masala and their aloo tikki.

My only criticism is the size of the seating area. Since the restaurant is so small, they packed a lot of tables in, which makes getting you your table somewhat tricky - but very much worth the effort!

Tasting Indian at Home or the Office
Well last night we decided to order in and gave Aahar a shot. Although Indian delivery can be hit and miss we were definitely craving something more than just pizza, and Aahar proved the perfect choice. For our meal we ordered Butter chicken, Lamb Curry, Onion Bhaji and two Garlic Naan with rice and it came to about $43 without tip. All of the food seemed of very good quality and was quite delicious. I think our only complaint was being dissuaded from ordering more Naan by the takeout attendant.
Definitely a decent delivery option.

EXCELLENT food, great service
Two of us went for the first time for the lunch buffet and were very impressed. The restaurant was very nice inside, and the food was great. We liked the fact that naan was part of the buffet, and not an extra add on, or something you always have to wait for. My highest rating.

I'm confused... buffet only?
Always looking for good Indian food, on the strength of a recent XPress review and the below, i went here in Feb 2008.

And all they had was tired looking dinner buffet. No thali. No menu, even. Just buffet. So we didn't stick around.

Thinking maybe i had missed something, i went back o-solo for dinner in Apr 2008, prepared to give it a chance, but nope, still just buffet, no a la carte, and the buffet looked rewarmed - that look buffet food gets when its been sitting unstirred and the top dries out.

So i didn't stay to eat and i can't comment on the food, but I can say two visits didn't tempt me to try it.

If someone's had a different experience, i'd be happy to try again and update this review.

Fabulous thali, great price!
My husband and I visited this restaurant and we both ordered Thali (I had vegetarian and he had meat). I was thoroughly impressed with my meal. For about $10 (maybe 11?), I received ample naan, lots of rice, several curries (including a most AMAZING paneer curry that I think I could live off for the rest of my life, a deeeelish chickpea curry and a really tasty vegetable curry). It was more than I could eat! My husband had a piece of tandoori chicken, a chicken curry (you can pick what kind of meat), as well as a vegetable curry. Personally, I thought that was great value, and also tasty....but the paneer dish alone makes the veggie thali worth its weight in gold. I really enjoyed the restaurant - it's new so it wasn't very busy, but service was pretty good and the food was great. Dinner for 2 including a beer and a ginger ale was about $35. Not too shabby!
