This is a little restarant in Sandy Hill. I wouldn't have known it was there had I not driven by and I couldn't find it in the Yellow Pages. It serves Korean food and each table has a little barbecue in the middle of it so the dish is cooked in front of you or you can tend to it yourself. They have things like chicken stir frys, etc. One night every month there's a vegetarian night and you have to reserve seats and pay in advance because it's allegedly good and the restaurant is small.

Worth a try
I found this place a while back through friends that went to Ottawa U. This restaurant is sort of hidden. It lies in a neighbourhood but sits close enough to the university that it attracts a lot of students from what I can remember.

The food is good. I used to always have the same thing: the beef korean bbq dish. The service is good and the place is clean. Prob not one of the better Korean restaurants in Ottawa but if you're in the neighbourhood and want a casual dining experience, I would try it.

Decent Korean BBQ
I read reviews about this place, so I came to try it out. There was only 1 server, but there were only a couple of tables at the time, so the service was ok. We got the beef and seafood plates and they were ok. A little on the expensive side for the quantity, but not overwhelming.

About a half hour later the place started to get packed. It was full and still only the 1 server was taking care of the whole place. There was about 30 people so you can just imagine what the service turned into.

The restaurant itself was a little on the grungy side so it could use a little remodeling.

I had high expectations going into this place, but unfortunately I was quite disappointed when I left.

Superb (420.10)

Went here recently for lunch - had the chapchae noodles - good. @ $6.99, very reasonably priced, an excellent deal for lunch as it also came with soup, spicy cabbage and a flat vegetable pancake dish (not sure what its called).

This place is not bad at all. The Price is good and he food is good. It's comparable to Korea Garden but the prices are better at Kwon's. Good place for students and homestyle Korean food fans.

Great (104.00)

This place is awsome! It's a tiny tucked away place near OttawaU. I like that they are open until 10pm every day and have free parking. They always serve some spicy kimchi and vegetable appetizers with this terrific fried rice paddy thing (no idea what it is, but it is great). The first time we got the first thing on the menu: Spicy chicken with sweet potato, zucchini, and rice noodle. I don't like spicy food much but it was good none the less. There was so much food, I was able to bring some for lunch. We went again yesterday (this time not spicy) and we ordered the seafood salmon, squid and shrimp with rice and Ume Tea. Kind of expensive but it is seafood, and it was really delicious! Give it a try :)

Thanks for much sirus! I wondered what it was called. I just looked it up and found recipes online for green onion P'ajon (Pajon)

The best Korean food I have had outside Korea! I also make my own and truly enjoy going here.

The proud owner cares about the clients and really makes it fun. Although the atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. Well a lot to tell you the truth. But that is typical of a Korean restaurant in Korea.

I recommend the Bulgogi BBQ to start if you haven't tried Korean food. Great Kimchi as well! The padjung (sp?) is great (that is that pancake you get at the beginning). Also, try the Jahp-chae if you like sesame noodles.

And there is unlimited Kimchi... so I have no idea what the last person was saying.

Thanks!

Fatty, cheap cuts of meat for the bbq; like substandard throw-away cuts of bacon. Barely-there scraps of shrimp and squid. Scrimpy portions of kimchi, which wasn't even good to begin with.

I ated at this place a couple of times, but sorry to to say this is not acceptable. I am a korean myself and want to give good reivews but it is simply not acceptable. Even kim chi tasted weird( I am a korean and make my own kim chi, I don't own any restaurant, but my kim chi tastes much better!). We asked for more cucumber salad(it is some sort of pickles), but they didn't have any? It finally came afer we finished eating, and it was way to salty. Anyways, the ambiance was weired too, what's up with 90s Korean music? I recommend Korean/Japanese restaurant on Somerset/O'connor. At least, the owner wouldn't stare at you the whole time while you are eating and provide no service!

After coming back from Korea - It was great to see this restaurant open. It is authentic in every way. While the decor may not be the best - it does look like a majority of restaurants in Korea! The food is great - The Jap Chae is great! Try the bulgogi BBQ! I just wish they had hae jang gook I would be back in Olsan!

I just ate at Kwon's. It was really a wonderful experience. It reminded me of my time in Korea, the food was authentic! It's so hard to find real authentic East Asian cuisine in North America, I find. Maybe because of availability of ingredients and tastes? Still, Kwon's was as close as I've come to finding the real thing. I went mid-week and it was empty. The service was great, the food was great and the prices can't be beat.

When we went there last night, there were only 2 other table beside us. Though on a busier night, I can see parking may become an issue.

Agree with other reviewers, the food appears to be very authentic. Small touches like providing lettuce so you can wrap you food in it enhance the experience.

I will probably go back there again to try other items from their somewhat "limited" menu.

This is a very small venue with few tables and reservation is recommended. The menu selection is limited. We ordered the BBQ beef and pork and also the sweet potato noodles. You get to cook the meat on a hot plate placed at the centre of the table. We wrapped the cooked meat and noodles in Romaine lettuce leaves to form mini wraps. The whole combination was very tasty and is something that I highly recommend for people who are looking for something different. The prices are also very affordable.

Kwon's Chicken House has the best Chicken BBQ that I have had outside of Korea! Very authentic, spicy and huge portions. The owners are very friendly and it's very reasonably priced.

It was fun to make my own food, and it was very very tasty (mildly spicy), yet healthy. The service was awesome because the place is so small.
